CDR Universal

CDR Universal INGESCO® Lightning Counter. Lightning strike counters with resettable system and installation in parallel.

The lightning strike counter CDR-UNIVERSAL is a device with a compact and robust construction designed to detect lightning strikes in external lightning protection installations (lightning rods, Faraday cages, etc.). The new isolated sensor of the CDR-UNIVERSAL ensures detection of lightning currents regardless of the condition of the down conductor or the quality of the meter’s attachment to the conductor.

CDR-UNIVERSAL detects the electrical current that is discharged to ground through the down conductor when a lightning strike occurs. The device records each strike by incrementing the counter by one unit. CDR-UNIVERSAL is installed in parallel without the need to manipulate the conductor (whether cable, rod, or strip) and requires no external power supply, as it uses the lightning’s own energy to operate. The magnetic sensor located inside the CDR-UNIVERSAL enables detection of lightning current in the conductor without electrical contact. This feature results in greater device resilience in the event of a lightning strike, as well as proper operation regardless of deterioration of the down conductor.

Features and Benefits

  • High capacity (999 impulses)
  • On-screen display
  • Lightning strike impulse detection:

Installation

The installation of lightning strike counters on down conductors is specified in standards UNE 21.186, NFC 17-102, and IEC 62.305, in order to allow immediate inspection and verification of the protection installation’s condition after each lightning strike: “The lightning protection system must be verified after any lightning strike recorded on the structure.”

The CDR-UNIVERSAL lightning counter was designed in accordance with the performance requirements of standard IEC 62.561/6:2011, Lightning Protection Components (LPCR) Part 6: Requirements for lightning strike counters.

It complies with the specifications of IEC 62.561/1:2012, Lightning Protection Components (LPCR) Part 1: Requirements for connecting components. Tests carried out at LABELEC, Electrotechnical Testing Laboratory, accredited by ENAC (accreditation no.: 307/LE681).
