ESE LIGHTNING RODS

Early streamer emission lightning rod

  • NP4426:2013
  • UNE 21.186:2011
  • NFC17-102:2011

Creates ionization directed towards the clouds up to the point of electrical discharge origin.

Function

The design of the INGESCO® PDC Lightning Rod allows the ionization of air particles around the collector tip, generating an upward leader directed towards the cloud. This ion stream captures and diverts the electrical discharge of lightning from its origin.

A potential difference is established between the exciter assembly (which has the same potential as the surrounding air) and the tip and deflector assembly (which have the same potential as the ground). This difference is higher as the atmospheric potential gradient increases, meaning the lightning formation is more imminent.

Obtaining the Δt value (triggering time advance) through laboratory tests allows establishing a correlation between the ion stream propagation speed and the lightning strike distance, from which the protection radius for each lightning rod model is derived (see attached table).

Knowledge of these protection radii allows us to select the most suitable lightning rod model for the characteristics of the protected structure in accordance with regulatory standards UNE 21.186:2011, NFC17.102:2011 and NP4426:2013.
