This ion stream captures and diverts the electrical discharge of lightning from its origin.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>A potential difference is established between the exciter assembly (which has the same potential as the surrounding air) and the tip and deflector assembly (which have the same potential as the ground).
